Judge Not? Is That Right?

Judge Not? Is That Right?
Vol: 95 Issue: 19 Wednesday, August 19, 2009

Generally speaking, when a carnal Christian is trying to justify behavior he knows is outside the will of God, he’ll quote the words of Jesus: “Judge not, that ye be not judged” (Matthew 7:1)

Later, in John, we find Jesus seemingly contradicting Himself. “Judge not according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment.” (John 7:24)

Then Paul comes along and tells us to judge those that are without God and to put away from ourselves that wicked person (1st Corinthians 5:13).

But then turns around and writes;

“I speak to your shame. Is it so, that there is not a wise man among you? no, not one that shall be able to judge between his brethren?” (1st Corinthians 6:5)

James writes, “There is one Lawgiver, Who is able to save and to destroy: who art thou that judgest another?” (James 4:12)

Are you confused yet? I thought the Bible didn’t contain any contradictions, yet here are four. Do we judge not? Or do we judge the wicked? Are we to convene a panel of judges? Or are we usurping God’s authority?

It would appear that whatever position you want to take on the issue of judgmentalism, there is a Scripture one can use to back it up. But what if all a person wanted was the honest answer to the question, rather than to win a debate or excuse bad behavior?

What IS our responsibility as believers when it comes to judging the behavior of others?

On one end of the spectrum are the Genesis 4:9 Christians (“Am I my brother’s keeper?”); on the other the 2nd Corinthians 6:17 Christians (“Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate”).

In the middle, Hebrews 10:30: “For we know Him that hath said, Vengeance belongeth unto Me, I will recompense, saith the Lord. And again, The Lord shall judge His people.”

Judgment is a very broad term; although it is derived from the word ‘justice’ it also includes everything from how to drive a car safely to what kind of tie goes best with your shirt.

There is no contradiction in the Scripture — there is only context. Remove the context and one can ‘prove’ pretty much anything they want to.

A proof text without context is a pretext.

The contradiction isn’t in Scripture, it is in the interpretation of the word ‘judge’ in the judicial sense of the word in every case, rather than in context. In some cases, it means judge in the sense of discernment, like judging when the best time is to try and get through rush hour traffic.

Matthew 7:1 “Judge not, that you be not judged” is the whole verse, but it is not the whole story. In Luke’s synoptic account, (6:37) Jesus says, “Judge not, and ye shall not be judged: condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned: forgive, and ye shall be forgiven.”

The Gospel is a series of continuing revelations direct from God to one of the most religiously judgmental societies of antiquity. Jesus is teaching doctrine here — the point is not judgment, but forgiveness to a people that heretofore knew only of atonement.

(“Atonement” means ‘to make restitution’. “Forgiveness” means no restitution is necessary.) You see what I mean about context being everything?

Paul’s admonition about putting away a wicked person is made in the context of spies inside a church during the days of Nero. It is judgment in the sense of smart thinking, not judicial conduct.

Paul’s reference to one judging among his brethren (1st Cor 6:5) is in the judicial sense, but in the context of two Christians not going before a pagan judge to decide a civil dispute.

In John 7:24, Jesus IS speaking of judging in the judicial sense when He tells His followers, “Judge not according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment.” He is admonishing against blind justice, or put another way, rendering judgment without considering the context.

I call it the “Jimmy Swaggart Syndrome.” Jimmy Swaggart served the Lord for decades and decades. He used his gifts to the glory of the Lord instead of following his cousins, Jerry Lee Lewis and country singer Gene Watson into secular show biz.

But Jimmy Swaggart isn’t judged by us according to his decades of service to the Lord, the sacrifices he made along the way, the thousands he led to Christ, his Bible ministries or his missionary work.

Instead, Jimmy Swaggart is remembered as the caricature sobbing “I have sinned,” and judged by his Christian brothers and sisters according to the worst moment is his life.

I’ve even seen it as a Hallowe’en mask.

Christian soldiers are just about the only army I know of that, when he sees a wounded comrade fall, immediately turns away from the enemy and bayonets his wounded.

While that is the sense of judgment most often exercised by well-meaning but legalistic Christians, it is the ONLY sense of judgment absent from Scripture. The one area of judgement expressly forbidden to believers is another believer’s heart. So of course, that is the first place we rush to judge.

One hears such comments all the time — “I don’t think that person’s heart is right before God,” or “he needs to get his heart right” and so on. THAT is where we like to pass judgment. Particularly if it is judgment against a struggle we don’t personally share.

You never hear a fat person condemn gluttony; you don’t hear smokers condemn smoking; you don’t hear drinkers condemning drinking . . . but drinkers condemn smokers, smokers condemn gluttons, gluttons condemn smokers . . .

It has been my experience that fat smokers who also drink are generally the most agreeable Christians of all. They also seem to have the best grasp of the concept of grace and are the least judgmental.

An expert swimmer in calm pool has little regard for the lifebuoy ring on the wall. A drowning man in a raging sea is profoundly grateful for his lifebuoy ring. Grace is most greatly appreciated by those who need the most of it to get through their day.

When we render judgment against a brother, we are basing that judgment on a single slice out of that person’s entire life. Think about the worst moment you’ve ever had in your Christian walk.

Recall the most profound and painful failure you’ve experienced since coming to Christ. Now imagine your entire Christian life being judged according to that particular moment.

That’s what we Christians do when we attempt to judge the heart of another. We’re judging that person’s entire life according to the context of a tiny part of their entire lives, as if God was all done with them and therefore, we should be, too.

God isn’t done with you. Wherever you are in our walk with God at any given moment, that’s not where you are going to be later on. You are not marching in place — time doesn’t stop until the body is separated from the soul and spirit at death.

And so neither does our walk with the Lord. As we walk, we change. Our judgments change. Our opinions change. Our worldview changes. NONE of this happens at the moment of salvation.

At the moment of salvation, your spirit is quickened (made alive) and you were transformed into a new creation of God. Spiritually, you are no longer Gentile or Jew, but are now and forever a Christian.

But spiritually speaking, you came to Christ as dumb as a bag o’ hammers and susceptible to almost every possible wind of doctrine.

If your heart were judged by your fellow Christians right then, you’d be judged differently than you would be today. And it would be a different judgement if rendered twenty years from today.

Ecclesiastes 7:1 tells us, “A good name is better than precious ointment; and the day of death than the day of one’s birth.”

It is only at the day of one’s death that one loses the ability to continue to be conformed to the image of Christ.

“Being confident of this very thing, that He which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ.” (Philippians 1:6)

My counsel would be to be absolutely sure you know Who it is you are passing judgment on. Because that’s the standard He will use when its your turn.

The Living Word

The Living Word
Vol: 95 Issue: 18 Tuesday, August 18, 2009

One of the topics of discussion during last week’s Omega Letter gathering was that of spiritual gifts. Particularly the gifts of prophecy, tongues and what TV preachers often call a “Word of Knowledge”.

Altogether, we had about fifty OL members who made it for all or some of the gathering, from different churches, different parts of the country and different points of view.

We went from Saturday morning through Monday evening without breaking for anything but food and sleep. By the time Monday night rolled around, there weren’t too many topics we hadn’t at least touched on. But we spent a whole afternoon on spiritual gifts.

The Apostle Paul outlined the various spiritual gifts, like charity, teaching, miracles, helps, faith, tongues, prophecy and knowledge, service, leadership, giving, evangelism, pastor, hospitality and celebacy.

Ever notice that nobody ever argues that if you don’t have the gift of leadership, you probably aren’t saved? Or if you don’t have the gift of hospitality, you’ve never undergone the Baptism of the Holy Spirit?

But some Christians believe that if they don’t speak or pray in tongues or can interpret tongues or prophesy over someone or something, then they do not have the Holy Spirit.

Paul specifically addresses three particular gifts — and these three only — this way: “whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away.” (1st Corinthians 13:8)

But believers will practically come to blows over the gifts of tongues, prophecy, knowledge and interpretation and their relevance to the Church today. I find it interesting that the giftings claimed by so many believers are the spectacular ones, like tongues.

Why tongues and not service? Or prophecy. Why prophecy and not charity? Or the ubiquitous ‘word of knowledge’ TV preachers often claim during their broadcasts. Why knowledge and not helps?

Paul goes on to explain these gifts in their proper context: “For we know in part and we prophesy in part. . . .”

As one of the principle teachers of the early Church Paul was given Divine revelation together with the gift of prophecy to establish his credentials and his authority to teach. The Apostles established their credentials and authority by virtue of their gifts of knowledge and miracles.

There is a story in the Book of Acts that illustrates what I mean.

Then certain of the vagabond Jews, exorcists, took upon them to call over them which had evil spirits the name of the LORD Jesus, saying, We adjure you by Jesus whom Paul preacheth. . . .And the evil spirit answered and said, Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are ye?”

The evil spirit then attacked all seven of them, who fled the house naked and bleeding . . “And this was known to all the Jews and Greeks also dwelling at Ephesus; and fear fell on them all, and the Name of the Lord Jesus was magnified.” (Acts 19:13,15,17)

The Apostles were given gifts useful to their specific mission, which was to plant the seeds of the early Church and establish its basic doctrine to equip it for its own mission of bringing others to Christ.

The ‘vagabond Jews’ attempted to usurp spiritual gifts to magnify their own reputations, to glorify themselves. The use of the spiritual gifts imparted by the Holy Spirit cannot help but glorify the Name of Jesus. Unless they are used to bring attention to the recipient.

Returning to the context of the gifts, the Apostles knew, in part, because they had been instructed by the Lord. They prophesied, in part, because prophecy literally means to speak the Word of God under Divine inspiration — and not necessarily about the future.

“But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away.” (1st Corinithians 13:10)

Once again, I call your attention to the particular gifts that are the ones that cause all the controversy. Prophecy, tongues, knowledge, miracles, etc.

Then, there are the gifts that nobody wants to fight over; helps, hospitality, service. . . doesn’t that speak to you on some subliminal level?

“For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.” (1st Corinthians 14:33)

Why are tongues and knowledge and miracles and prophecy so important to this generation? Paul says of tongues:

“If therefore the whole church be come together into one place, and all speak with tongues, and there come in those that are unlearned, or unbelievers, will they not say that ye are mad?” (1st Corinthians 14:23)

That seems blindingly self-evident to me. Unbelievers see some guy on TV speaking in tongues and they think he’s nuts and switch the channel. New believers try to speak in tongues and can’t and wonder what is wrong with them?

It seems counterproductive to insist that gifts that scare off unbelievers and discourage new believers are a necessary part of the Baptism of the Holy Spirit.

Paul says when that which is perfect is come in that which is in part shall be done away. What is ‘perfect’ in this world? Does the Bible give any hints?

“For the Word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” (Hebrews 4:12)

The word rendered ‘quick’ in Hebrews 4:12 is translated from the Greek word ‘zao’ which means ‘alive’. The Word of God is alive, which is why it is able to speak to all generations with equal clarity.

What is the purpose for the Bible? “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness. That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.” (2nd Timothy 3:16-17 )

Are tongues and miracles and knowledge and prophecy for today? I am not one to limit God, so I am not going to say that they are not. I don’t live in China or Russia or North Korea where there is no access to God’s Word.

I will say I tried to pray in tongues. I couldn’t. And when I’ve heard people speak in tongues in church, I’ve been unimpressed — I’ve yet to hear anybody do more than repeat a relative handful of unintelligible word-like sounds.

I’ve met many a discouraged Christian who tried to experience the ‘baptism of the Holy Spirit’ and failing in that effort, despaired of their salvation. And I’ve heard many an unbeliever scoff at Christianity after watching some miracle-working TV preacher.

I don’t know if my experience is unique, but that is what my experience has been, and to pretend otherwise is dishonest.

To summarize our discussion on this topic, I believe that all the spiritual gifts are still in operation today but that some are more often claimed than are actually given.

I believe that the Bible teaches that certain of those gifts are conditional — when that which is perfect (the Bible) is come, that which was in part was done away.

But I also know that some of us have that which is perfect (the Bible) and some of us (like North Korean Christians) do not. Who am I to limit God?

I believe that the Scriptures teach that all spiritual gifts are for the glorification of God, and not for the glorification of the recipient of that particular gift.

That’s what I believe. But I am just a man with a Bible — I’m not a prophet and I’m not infallible. I could be wrong — that’s why we have discussion forums. To discuss such things and thereby increase our understanding.

“Who art thou that judgest another man’s servant? to his own master he standeth or falleth. Yea, he shall be holden up: for God is able to make him stand. . . . Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind.” (Romans 15:4-5b)

Silent Syria

Silent Syria
Vol: 95 Issue: 17 Monday, August 17, 2009

Compared to the vociferous belligerence of an Iran or a North Korea, Bashar Assad’s Syria seems relatively benign, at least, as Syria tends to be viewed from the cheap seats in the West.

Israel is not fooled, but for some reason, the West sees Syria more as an annoyance than as a serious threat to their interests.

Israel knows that Syria ranks a close second to Iran in terms of its implacable hatred of all things Israeli, but the West remains convinced it can negotiatate with Bashar al Assad, the former opthamologist with a reputation for weakness who only reluctantly succeeded his father, Hafez al Assad.

His reputation is undeserved. The younger al Assad has a softer touch than his father. But he is more subtle, not less ruthless. Little has changed within Syria since his ascension, including Syrian foreign policy with Israel.

In March, Syrian Foreign Minister Walid Al-Maualem briefly made headlines when he reminded the world that a state of war still exists between Israel and Syria.

In an interview with al-Jazeera, Mualem said that “it is natural that Syria will continually seek to acquire negotiating cards against Israel.”

Mualem told al-Jazeera that Syria could not achieve through negotiation, it would achieve through war. “We believe that peace will never be achieved merely through diplomatic means, but also through active opposition. This is the legitimate right of all nations,” he said.

Despite this and many other similar statements, Syria seldom tops the news headlines outside of Israel. This seems odd, given Syria’s increasingly close ties to Iran and North Korea.

Last year, Israeli warplanes launched a sneak attack against what is now known to have been a nuclear reactor of North Korean design. The attack got little attention by the Western media, even after satellite photos comfirmed the target’s design and subsequent tests confirmed the presence of radiation at the site.

The Western media is reluctant to draw attention to Syria because it has too much invested in what it doesn’t know and doesn’t want to know. The 2003 invasion of Iraq was based on the belief that Saddam possessed weapons of mass destruction that posed a threat to his neighbors.

The liberal anti-Bush element of the mainstream media, which opposed Bush in every arena as a matter of principle, had previously relied on the somewhat weak argument that Bush 43 invaded Iraq to impress his father, Bush 41, who left Saddam in power at the conclusion of the first Gulf War. Or that Bush invaded Iraq to steal Iraqi oil.

After the invasion, the mainstream media added the ‘Bush lied’ element when no weapons of mass destruction were found by US forces. Pre-war photographs of what appeared to be convoys of vehicles leaving what were believed to be WMD storage facilities headed to Syria were at first ignored, then actively disputed by the mainstream.

The media had made its case against George Bush as a liar; it had a vested interest in ignoring evidence that could be used to support the administration. There was an election on the horizon and John Kerry was Their Guy.

So Syria was dropped from the media’s radar. Since Syria holds the key to the complete vindication of the Iraq War and the complete exposure of the mainstream media as the propaganda arm of the American Far Left, that’s where it remains.

If you want to know what Syria is up to, you have to go abroad and you have to dig deep. For example, the private intelligence group that publishes Jane’s reported the deaths of ‘dozens of Iranians and Syrians’ in a ‘nerve gas’ accident that wasn’t picked up by any mainstream news agency until almose three months later.

The story finally ‘broke’ on Israel’s Channel 10, who cited Jane’s Defense Weekly as part of a wider Israeli investigative report on Syrian activity. Although the story was also reported in the September 18th, 2007 edition of the Jerusalem Post, it made almost no impact in the West.

According to the report “the joint Syrian-Iranian team was attempting to mount a chemical warhead on a Scud missile when the explosion occurred, spreading lethal chemical agents, including sarin nerve gas.”

Odds are good that, unless you were an OL subscriber in 2007, it’s the first you’ve heard of it. And if you were one of the millions of unplugged Americans who rely on print newspapers and the nightly news, you certainly didn’t hear of it.

But it happened.

Just like the IDF raid on the North Korean-built Syrian nuclear reactor happened.

A Syrian opposition party newspaper reprinted a December, 2006 report from the Kuwait daily, Al-Siyasa, which reported that Syria was conducting “an advanced nuclear program” in Hasakah, a province in northeastern Syria.

The report quoted British sources as having identified Colonel Maher Assad, a relative of Syrian President Bashar Assad, and Rami Mahmouf as the two people “supervising” the project.

According to the report in Al-Siyasa, the Syrian nuclear program used Iraqi materials smuggled by Saddam Hussein’s sons prior to the US invasion in March, 2003. Both of Saddam’s sons-in-law had briefly defected to Jordan where confirmed the reports before being lured back to Iraq where they were promptly executed for treason.

Now there are new semi-official reports that Pyongyang, Tehran and Damascus tested a jointly-developed missile at Syria’s southeastern missile test site at Jebel Druze near Salakhand.

According to the Debkafile, the target was an uninhabited desert area near where Saddam’s WMDs were buried by the Syrians (with Russian help) in 2001. The report says that one of the missiles allegedly went wildly off-course, missing the target by more than 200 miles, landing in a marketplace in a small town near Aleppo and killing at least twenty Syrians.

If it really was off-course, then it is quite a coincidence that it landed near Aleppo. That’s where the WMD accident happened that killed ‘dozens’ of Syrian and Iranian technicians in 2007.

In any case, one would think something like that was newsworthy enough for some enterprising investigative journalist to pursue. But Syria remains off-limits. But nobody wants to vindicate the reasons for the Iraq War — the Left still dreams of a Bush war-crimes trial.

Anyway, Obama has already apologized for invading Iraq on false pretenses, so vindicating Bush would contradict Obama. And exposing the president as a common liar isn’t good for America’s image.

Especially since it means he’d have to share the liar’s spotlight with the so-called “watchdogs of freedom” among the media.

So Syria gets a pass.

In 1997, Jane’s Defense News reported on an Israeli plan to retaliate against a feared chemical attack from Saddam Hussein “with a devastating neutron bomb barrage.”

This is the same Jane’s Defense News that broke the story about the nerve gas ‘accident’ ten years later. And Israel refused to confirm nor deny it. There is therefore little reason to doubt the accuracy of the report.

The neutron bomb kills by irradiating the area of detonation with untold trillions of neutrons that kill all humans and animals, but leave all buildings and vehicles intact. This bomb also releases very little radiation, so the area formerly inhabited by living people can be immediately occupied.

The Prophet Zechariah describes the exact effects of a neutron bomb against human flesh as seen from the perspective of the battlefield, describing 21st century warfare using a 5th century BC vocabulary:

“And this shall be the plague wherewith the LORD will smite all the people that have fought against Jerusalem; Their flesh shall consume away while they stand upon their feet, and their eyes shall consume away in their holes, and their tongue shall consume away in their mouth.” (Zechariah 14:12)

The Prophet Isaiah, as we’ve discussed in previous OL briefs, prophesied the “burden of Damascus” which predicts the utter destruction of Damascus at Israeli hands over what amounts to weak global objections.

But Damascus won’t meet its appointment with destiny alone. The Prophet Obadiah was given a vision for the last days concerning ‘Edom’ and its inhabitants whom God identifies as the descendants of Esau “who appropriated My land for themselves as a possession with wholehearted joy and with scorn of soul, to drive it out for a prey.” Obadiah 18:14

“Edom” was another name for Esau, given him in Genesis 25:30; “”And Esau said to Jacob, Feed me, I pray thee, with that same red pottage; for I am faint: therefore was his name called Edom.”

Obadiah writes: “For thy violence against thy brother Jacob shame shall cover thee, and thou shalt be cut off for ever.” Obadiah 18:11) ‘Violence’ in Hebrew is chamac, which is pronounced ‘hamas’.

It is hardly a coincidence therefore, that the headquarters for both organizations are listed in the Damascus phone book.

Isaiah’s burden for Damascus is also Obadiah’s burden for Hamas and Hezbollah.

“For the day of the LORD is near upon all the heathen: as thou hast done, it shall be done unto thee: thy reward shall return upon thine own head. For as ye have drunk upon My holy mountain, so shall all the heathen drink continually, yea, they shall drink, and they shall swallow down, and they shall be as though they had not been.” (Obadiah 1:15-16)

Here is what I want you to see and share with the skeptics. More than 2,500 years ago, the Hebrew prophets predicted the exact scenario now unfolding before our very eyes, right down to naming Israel’s most implacable enemies — by name.

All these predictions — made from various points and places along the Bible’s timeline — come to a nexus at the exact same point in history.

Everything that they predicted that could come to pass HAS come to pass so far. Literally, and not allegorically, from the restoration of Israel to the alignment of nations to the effects of 21st century battlefield weaponry in the field — and with 100% accuracy.

There is no reason to believe that, given such stunning accuracy so far, those prophecies remaining to be fulfilled will be fulfilled any less accurately or literally in the days ahead.

Be confident, despite the chaos and uncertainty. All is according to God’s Plan, outlined for us in advance so we would KNOW the signs of the times and rejoice in them, rather than fear them, for we know what they mean.

“The fear of man bringeth a snare: but whoso putteth his trust in the LORD shall be safe.” (Proverbs 29:25)

“Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass away, till all be fulfilled.” (Luke 21:32)

The Mean Spirit

The Mean Spirit
Vol: 95 Issue: 15 Saturday, August 15, 2009

When I was a kid growing up, my father had a policy that he expressed thusly: “The first time you do something wrong, it might be an accident. The second time, it’s deliberate.”

There was always room for leniency on Count One. For Count Two for the same offense, you got the chair. The one thing for which the penalty was always something just short of death was for lying.

My Dad hated a liar worse than anything. Another of his sayings was, “Anybody who would lie would cheat. And anybody who would cheat would steal.”

To my Dad a liar was automatically a cheat and a thief. “It’s a matter of character. If you lie, it doesn’t matter. You have no character.”

Over the course of my lifetime, I’ve seen my Dad’s opinion of liars vindicated many times over.

One excellent example is America’s 42nd president.

That he is a proven liar is beyond doubt — he was even convicted of lying under oath, resulting in the revocation of his law license.

Was he also a cheat? Ask Monica Lewinsky. Paula Jones. Juanita Broderick. Kathleen Willy.

Or ask Hillary.

Was he proved a thief? The General Accounting Office said so, sending out teams to recover vanloads of misappropriated (stolen) White House furniture, etc., when the couple left the Oval Office.

Whether or not America’s 44th president is a thief and a cheat is as yet unproved. That he is a liar is now beyond debate. That is proved by my father’s other adage, ‘the second time is deliberate’.

We discussed the presidential town hall meeting in Portsmouth in Wednesday’s OL and the series of what Press Secretary Gibbs called ‘misstatements’ about the plan.

In Friday’s OL, we discussed the presidential contention that AARP had endorsed his health care plan. AARP promptly issued a statement denying the endorsement. At the daily press briefing, spokesman Robert Gibbs dismissed it by saying the president ‘misspoke.’

Yesterday, Obama went to another town hall meeting, this time, in Montana. Once again, the White House insisted that the crowd was not cherry-picked and that Obama was expecting a rough time.

Once again, the crowd was polite and respectful and in the main, supportive of both his administration and universal health care. There was none of the anger that has typified most town hall meetings; no ‘angry mobs’ of senior citizens carrying oxygen tanks, or cancer patients demanding to be heard.

According to a report from Newsmax, “The Montana crowd which unlike the one in New Hampshire reportedly was not hand-picked by the White House appeared no less Obama-friendly.

“Something’s a little fishy here,” Jim Walters, eastern coordinator for Resistnet, a grass-roots organization affiliated with the Grassfire.org Alliance, told Newsmax prior to the event. “They weren’t supposed to start handing out tickets until 9 o’clock. I had people up here at 8, and the tickets were already gone.”

(Later, Gibbs suggested that Obama’s crowds were representative of real America and therefore the ‘angry mobs’ at the Congressional town hall meetings were all Republican operatives.)

While in Bozeman, Obama repeated his assertion that AARP had endorsed his health care plan. He also repeated his statement that “if the AARP is onboard, then seniors have nothing to worry about.”

That was just one of five provable whoppers Obama repeated after he had been corrected by the parties involved.

Rich Noyes, director of research for the conservative Media Research Center, was quoted by Newsmax saying the Obama administration is betting the mainstream media will continue echoing its talking points, without giving them the same sharp perusal they direct toward factual assertions from conservatives.

“We’ve seen fact-check after fact-check on NBC, ABC, and CBS, trying to debunk the conservative talking points,” Noyes says. “And yet there’s been no equal effort to scrutinize the claims put forth by Congress or the president, which is a very unbalanced playing field.”

Obama is trying to cast himself in a role similar to the fact-checkers employed by the networks, to give voters “the impression it is Obama and the fact-checkers versus a bunch of liars on the right,” says Noyes.

That strategy requires the mainstream media to stay in the tank for Obama without breaking ranks to tell the truth. Think about that for a minute. The entire strategy is one based on being able to tell provable, known and deliberately repeated lies without worrying about being exposed by a pet White House press corps.

These are not accidental lies; nor are they inconsequential lies. To a senior who only gets their news from one of the network nightly news broadcasts, (old habits die hard) the fact that the health care plan is endorsed by AARP is sufficient to get their support for it.

Obama knows it isn’t a fact — but they don’t –AND he knows that Katie Couric or Brian Williams aren’t going to correct him. So he repeats the lie, even after being corrected, betting that only those paying close attention will know — and they’ve already been marginalized as a ‘mob’.

Obama knows that claiming he ‘misspoke’ twice on the same topic wouldn’t fool my father. Or very many of his generation. The first time might be an accident. The second time is deliberate. So the only alternative understanding is that he doesn’t care. And he doesn’t.

The disrespect that Obama has for the American people borders on open contempt. Those who disagree with him are demonized and marginalized and insulted and disrespected as unAmerican, dishonest partisans who are all card-carrying Republicans or right wing conservatives.

I caught part of the O’Reilly Factor last night when Laura Ingraham was guest-hosting. One of her guests attempted to misdirect the conversation away from the facts about the opposition by gratuitously insulting Sarah Palin, predicting one day she’ll be dating some hip hop artist on VH1 when Igraham called him on it.

Ingraham made the point that the Left has “nothing left” except personal attacks and insults to throw at its opponents. I believe it may be even deeper than that.

There is a viciousness to it that goes beyond politics. Some secular pundits call it ‘mean-spirited’ without ever knowing what they are saying or how right they are in saying it. There is clearly some kind of spiritual influence at work here beyond anything we’ve ever witnessed.

Obama exhibits an almost demonic ability to manipulate his supporters — and some of them, in turn, seem to be almost demonically devoted to their master.

They appear willing to believe and defend pretty much anything he says, despite his obvious penchant for dissembling the facts and his open contempt for them and their petty little problems.

The moment one of his supporters becomes a liability . . . well, he’s done it so often we have a phrase for it — “throwing them under the bus.”

Yet those not yet crushed under its wheels remain fanatically devoted to him. Let someone dare question his citizenship and they’ll report them to the White House.

Do they wonder why he is paying lawyers to hide his history? No. Would it matter to them if he were an illegal alien? Probably not.

There is a spirit at work here, and the secular pundits are right when they say it is a mean spirit. It is also a spirit on a mission. I believe an argument can be made to the effect that spirit has been given his marching orders as part of a wider battle plan.

According to Scripture, when the antichrist comes on the scene, he takes control of an existing economic, political and religious government infrastructure that encompasses what we know as the West.

Revelation 13:17-18 says that his control of that infrastructure is so centralized that he will be able to enforce his will by excluding dissidents from normal society.

No man will be able to buy or sell, John says, unless they are part of his system. Even today, that is only partly possible.

One could be rendered socially ‘dead’ by the simple expedient of retiring one’s Social Security number. Without a valid Social Security number, you can’t get a job. You can’t have a bank account. You can’t get a car loan. You can’t buy a house. You can’t get a credit card and you can’t even board an airplane.

But there remain ways around some of the restrictions — illegal aliens do it all the time. Cash is anonymous, and where there is cash, there are ways. But remove anonymous cash and make everything an electronic transaction and ALL the holes a plugged.

If you aren’t part of the system, you can’t buy your way around the rules — what will you use to pay someone off?

This is where we’re heading . . . the stimulus bill, cap and trade, the government takeover of key industries, the monetizing of the debt, the trillion dollar printing press and now control over one sixth of the nation’s economy — health care — clearly the intent is to destroy the dollar.

The only logical reason is so that a new currency can be imposed to replace the dollar, which is already transparently worthless. It’s been over-collateralized to the point where nobody wants to risk holding anymore US debt.

And since the majority of US debt is held by countries like China and Russia, nobody can afford a US default.

That only leaves one alternative to total, global economic collapse. A new currency backed by more than the old one is. The Amero would have been backed by the inclusion of the Mexican and Canadian economies, plus their abundant natural resources, but public opposition has put that plan on hold, if it hasn’t killed it altogether.

If we are as far along the Bible’s timeline for the last days as the Bible appears to suggest, then what we are witnessing is the start of an effort to remake the West into a single economic and political entity under a single authority.

Everything Obama is doing seems to point in exactly that direction. It is hard to see how things can turn out differently.

This is the right time. This is the right place. The Bible says the seat of government in the last days is in Rome, not Washington. So something has to happen to shift power in that direction, and it looks like that ‘something’ may well be happening right before our eyes.

Don’t let it scare you. The fact that these things are taking place according to a set schedule is evidence that there is a Scheduler. And how He accomplishes His will remains up to Him.

The Church is still here and the Holy Spirit is still hard at work restraining evil. Unless the Rapture happens first, Obama should lose control of the Congress in 2010. That could put everything on hold while the Lord waits until the last possible moment before recalling His Spirit and His Bride along with Him.

So it isn’t ALL doom and gloom. The Lord knows what He is doing, and He wanted us to be sure that we would know what He has in mind. That’s why He gave us prophecy. So we wouldn’t be surprised. So we wouldn’t fear. So we would trust Him instead of trusting to our own devices.

“Behold, I have told you before.” (Matthew 24:25)

“And now I have told you before it come to pass, that, when it is come to pass, ye might believe.” (John 14:29)

“Be not afraid of sudden fear, neither of the desolation of the wicked, when it cometh. For the LORD shall be thy confidence, and shall keep thy foot from being taken.” (Proverbs 3:25-26)

Everything is going according to Plan.

Facts Used to Seem So, Well, Factual

Facts Used to Seem So, Well, Factual
Vol: 95 Issue: 14 Friday, August 14, 2009

In Montana this week, the Gallatin County Democrat Party made much of the local GOP’s refusal to sign a ‘civility pledge’ agreeing to keep their local town hall meeting ‘civil’ and ‘respectful’.

Since the GOP won’t agree, the Democrats can point to that in their advertising as evidence to support their claim that it is the Republicans who are poisoning the civil discourse over health care reform.

But how does one define ‘civil’ and ‘respectful’? Since the pledge is being advanced by the Democrats, one would assume that their working definition of ‘civil’ and ‘respectful’ should be the controlling legal authority here.

What is the Democrat definition for ‘civil’ and ‘respectful’? Since it is their definition, it must logically follow that they set the example by their own past behavior.

Less than a year after the September 11 attacks, the Democrats were spreading rumors that George W. Bush ordered the shooting down of Flight 93. Bob Fertik wrote a column for democrats.com under the headline, “In the Infamous 9-11 Fundraising Photo, Did Bush Order the Shootdown of the Flight 93 Heroes?”

In support of his contention, Fertik quotes Bill Press from CNN.com, Bob Woodward of the Washington Post, John Cochran of ABC and Jere Longman of the New York Times. (See OL Commentary, June 30, 2002)

I want you to see how cynical — and how clever — a trap this was. In the first place, had the passengers of Flight 93 not brought down the flight on their own, the White House would have had no choice except to shoot it down. No choice whatever.

Fertik and his rabid cronies all knew that. That is why they picked the scenario they did — had Flight 93 reached its target, Bush would have been equally wrong either way. However, they also KNEW that the plane wasn’t shot down. There was no physical evidence to suggest the plane was shot down.

The families of the passengers heard, in grisly detail, the final thirty minutes of Flight 93. They heard the struggle. They heard the death cries. They heard the screams, the horror, relived the dying moments of their loved ones with them.

They heard the hijackers being overpowered, the passengers take control of the plane, and all the evidence points to the plane slamming into the ground — point blank — at terminal velocity, intact until impact. The Bush-bashers simply invented their case and challenged his defenders to prove them wrong.

Does anybody else remember the anti-Bush demonstrations? The placards depicting George Bush as Hitler? The swastikas? The flag-burnings? The riots? These were not anti-government demonstrations; they were anti-Bush. The left was still seething over Al Gore’s failed attempt to overturn the Florida election and steal the White House.

Die-hard Democrats will still turn red and start screaming that it was Bush that ‘stole the election’ despite the fact that not one single recount, even one conducted by the NYTimes was able to find enough votes for Al Gore to give him the election — even when all the disputed ballots were given to Gore.

Bashing George Bush is still part of the Democrat strategy to this day. Every single Obama speech is predicated with some lame excuse about how Obama inherited the economy from the Bush administration.

Presidents have very little control over the economy. If that were not true, then why is nobody asking why hasn’t Obama fixed this one? Because of the fact that only Congress can pass legislation affecting the economy.

Despite September 11, the economy was in good shape as America was preparing to close the books on 2006. Then the Democrats took control of both Houses of Congress as Nancy Pelosi pledged to ‘fix the Bush economy.’

She did. Two years later, the economy was in shambles. Then Obama ‘inherited’ it, according to the Legend from the Left, from George Bush.

That was one of George Bush’s most legendary attributes. His ability to do anything, much like an evil Superman.

When Bush controlled both Houses of Congress, the restoration of the US economy after 9/11 was a “testament to American resilience”, and certainly NOT the result of Bush’s policies.

But when the economy tanked — coincidentally after the Democrats took over in 2006 — the tanking of the US economy was the ‘result of Bush mismanagement.’ The recession that began in 2007 is labeled the “Bush Recession”.

Even with super-majorities in both Houses today — and Obama in the White House — the bad economy is Bush’s fault and the failure of Obama’s health care plan is because of Bush-style Republican obstructionism.

And the town hall uprisings are the product of “manufactured outrage” ginned up by the Republican Party taking a page from the playbook of the evil Karl Rove.

Arlen Specter said yesterday that the two town hall meetings he held were ‘not representative’ of the American people. The President has dismissed them as “mobs” whipped up by conservative talk radio.

Nancy Pelosi famously called them ‘Astroturf’ — a curious reference comparing them to fake grass — and in a recent op-ed piece in USAToday, called them ‘unAmerican’ for not supporting the Obama administration.

SENATOR Barbara Boxer (not ma’am — unless you are black) is on record criticizing what she called “Well-dressed protesters at town halls trying to hurt our president.”

Remember, in classical Marxism, it is the rich (the well-dressed) Republican bourgeousie vs. the poor (and presumably ragged) Democrat proletariat. In classical facism, it is all about the state.

Hence, if one is both well-dressed and in opposition to Obama’s policies, then one is numbered among the rich who are trying to ‘hurt’ our president, the champion of the working man and union member (proletariat).

Scary, isn’t it?

Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell blamed the town hall uprisings on the ‘birthers’ whom he said were “absolute nuts”. ‘Birthers’ is how the Left characterizes anyone who believes President Obama is hiding something by concealing his birth certificate and his educational records.

Birthers are treated as kooks and extremists, banned from the comment sections of websites, and given less respect or voice in the media than those detached enough from basic reality to believe that passenger planes didn’t hit the World Trade Center on 9/11.

And despite the video evidence, not to mention the missing passenger jets full of people. Why? Because when it comes to blaming George Bush, such details fade into irrelevancy.

It begs the question – is uncertainty about the citizenship of the President of the United States really so offensive? Certainly no one expressed this kind of outrage when John McCain’s eligibility was questioned due to his birth in the Panama Canal Zone.

A full Congressional hearing was held to address that question. Why is it crazy to expect similar oversight when it comes to Obama? In Obama’s case, a hearing isn’t necessary. A long form Certificate of Live Birth from Hawaii would end the controversy forever.

Nonetheless, says Governor (and former DNC chairman) of the town hall meeting participants: “The birthers are a perfect slice of these people who have lost their rationality and they have become obsessed with certain things, and that obsession is hurting the democratic process.”

You see! It is simple! If you think Obama is hiding something (his birth certificate and school records) because he is hiding something (his birth certificate and school records) then you are ‘irrational’ and ‘obsessed.’

If, on the other hand, you don’t believe that hiding something is evidence there is something to hide, then you are normal, well adjusted — and a Democrat.

If you attend a rally in which you call for the president’s impeachment, accuse him of starting two wars so he can steal oil, call him a murderer and then burn the American flag, then you are an American citizen exercising your First Amendment rights.

If you attend a town hall meeting that was called specifically for the purpose of airing your opinion on a political question that will affect you and your family for decades to express your opposition, you are an “unAmerican birther” who is ‘obsessed and out of touch with reality’ and you could use some lessons in the proper exercise of civil discourse.

Oh, and you are absolutely nuts.

“I want to campaign the same way I govern, which is to respond directly and forcefully with the truth,” ~ Barack Obama, 11/08/07

The newest cottage industry to spring up on the internet is the Obama Fact Check. Ironically, Barack Obama started the trend himself by putting up a ‘Fact Check’ website from which he could accuse the opposition of lying by selectively dissecting his political opponents.

The site, called “Organizing For America” also has a “snitch button” section. It asks, “Getting smear emails about Barack Obama? Forward the email to ‘watchdog@barackobama.com so we can fight back.”

They call it a “new kind of politics.” Actually, the politics of denouncement isn’t new — it was already old-style politics in the days of the Ceasars.

It is only ‘new’ in America because the American government is only newly fascist and still not sure how best to wield these newly-rediscovered political weapons. But totalitarianism is addictive — once you get the hang of it, it is a difficult habit to break.

The Democrats are delighted with it — (denouncement — why didn’t we think of this before?) but they’re still a bit clumsy because it is new.

For example, they haven’t figured out how to target it yet. Denouncement works best when the ones you are denouncing DON’T OUTNUMBER YOU.

According to ALL the polls the majority of Americans oppose both the health care reform bills under consideration. According to ALL the polls, the anger at the town hall meetings IS, therefore, representative of America as a whole. The most recent Fox poll shows public opposition running at 49% against the plan vs 34% that support it.

It isn’t just the birthers, the nut jobs, the irrational and the obsessed. It is the Americans that oppose it, NOT the Republicans. (If it were just the Republicans, the Senate could pass it 60-40 even if every Republican Senator voted against it. Is this complicated?)

When somebody fact-checks Obama, that person is demonized. Obama said twice in his friendly town hall meeting in Portsmouth that AARP was onboard with his plan. He pointed out that, if his plan was unfriendly to seniors, AARP would not have endorsed it.

It would be very convincing, if it were true. But AARP says it isn’t. When asked about the lie, press secretary Robert Gibbs said the president ‘misspoke.’ (Twice in one speech).

Obama said the drug companies were also onboard. When asked if there was a quid pro quo deal, the White House denied it. Until the deal was made public. Then the White House said Obama ‘misspoke’ — again.

Then there was the flap about the ‘end of life’ provisions contained in the bill. Everybody denied it until somebody obtained a copy of the bill. Then they argued about what it really meant — eventually, the Senate cut the provision out.

But a bill that once contained provisions suggesting how best to end a senior’s life in a cost-effective manner is a bill that can be amended later to put them back in.

Obama’s first speech to the Congress contained no fewer than seven deliberate distortions, (we used to call them lies) according to FactCheck.org, and at least a dozen statements that FactCheck called ‘strained.’

The speech was so filled with untruths that in its analysis, FactCheck finally decided to list the statements that were unequivocally true. It found two — and in a followup article, listed a third fact that it discovered was true.

To summarize their findings, FactCheck found it easier to count the true statements in Obama’s address to the Congress and to the American people than it did to count the lies.

Comparing it with FactCheck’s analysis of Bush speeches, it is fair to argue that the current administration is less honest than the Bush administration.

There is more evidence of financial corruption among top members of the Obama administration than there was during the Clinton administration.

There is more evidence of political corruption within the Obama administration than was ever alleged during the Reagan Iran-Contra investigation.

And there are more self-avowed Marxists and Communists connected with or appointed by the Obama administration than there were during the Jimmy Carter administration.

The Obama administration has been in office for less than eight months — of a four-year term.

God help us.

The False Flag Scenario

The False Flag Scenario
Vol: 95 Issue: 13 Thursday, August 13, 2009

Like everyone else, I’ve been watching the political kabuki dance unfold over the past six months with a mixed sense of dread and horror. It was one of the main topics of discussion during last week’s OL Gathering.

There was a general sense of agreement that whatever is going on with the economy, it appears to be deliberate. Where there are two possible course of action, the administration’s choice always seems to be the one most obviously wrong.

Joe Biden’s “gird your loins” speech from the campaign trail about how Obama is going to be tested, and how it is going to look like he’s got it exactly backwards keeps playing in my head. . .

“Mark my words,” said Candidate Joe Biden last October in Seattle.”Watch. We’re going to have an international crisis, a generated crisis, to test the mettle of this guy.

“And he’s going to need help . . . to stand with him. Because it’s not going to be apparent initially; it’s not going to be apparent that we’re right. So gird your loins.”

Everyone dismissed it at the time as one of Joe Biden’s gaffes — and therefore, not worthy of further comment.

But I always suspected that it was more a case of Biden inadvertently blending facts he heard during a long-range strategic planning session into a stump speech.

On July 16th, in a speech delivered to AARP members at a town hall meeting, Biden accidentally leaked another planned event when he announced;

“The status quo is unsustainable. . . We’re going to go bankrupt as a nation,” he told his stunned audience. But was that a gaffe? Given the administration’s economic policies, I’m not so sure that isn’t part of a larger plan.

The dollar continues to collapse and the Fed is monetizing the debt, which historically is the first step on the slide toward economic hyperinflation. The simple fact is that the US dollar has been hopelessly compromised. It has been over-collateralized to the point there is nothing left to borrow against.

Whatever happened to the Security and Prosperity Partnership with Canada and Mexico and the introduction of a replacement currency like the ‘amero’?

Republican Congressman Virgil Goode introduced a Congressional resolution blocking the creation of a North American Union in early 2007. Similar resolutions have been introduced in several state legislatures – in Montana’s case, the resolution passed nearly unanimously.

In July 2007, the US House of Representatives easily approved a measure that would cut off federal funds for an existing trade group set up by the three countries. Similar overexposure in Mexico and Canada made moving forward too politically risky for all concerned, so the idea was quietly shelved.

The fact is, the idea of a North American Union (NAU) was under discussion because Joe Biden is right. The status quo IS unsustainable, and since the public won’t come along willingly, then, to quote the old gangster movies, they’re going to have to ‘muss us up’ a bit.

Ok, so who are ‘they’? There IS a ‘money trust’ — a cabal, if you will, of the world’s top bankers. They are the ones who control and manipulate the international money supply. This trust DOES exist. See “Is There Really a Money Trust?”

Like the members of the Council on Foreign Relations, the Bilderberger Group, the various UN foundations and NGOs, and dozens of non-governmental ‘think tanks’, the members of the Money Trust are not evil men planning nefarious deeds, but elitists who are willing to make the hard choices for the good of mankind.

Caiphas did not think himself evil when he suggested it would be expedient for one man to die (Jesus) to spare the whole people from Roman retribution. Indeed, Caiaphas proved himself a capable politician capable of making the hard choices when called upon.

In today’s world, he’d have probably been awarded a Nobel Peace Prize.

According to Bible prophecy, there will exist four spheres of global power in the last days. The ‘global’ government of antichrist is ‘global’ in the sense of what is today called “the West.”

It isn’t truly global, since the other three spheres of power — Gog-Magog, the Kings of the South and the Kings of the East are all independent entities.

Indeed, each of these, at one time or another during the Tribulation, come into military confrontation with the antichrist.

But it is the antichrist’s governmental policies that determine what the rest of the world will do, in much the same manner that the US does now. When the US housing market collapsed, it reverberated around the world, hurting friend and foe alike.

To illustrate how that works, the two nations worst hurt when our market tanked were simultaneously our closest ally, (Japan) and our most dangerous adversary, (China).

Revelation 13:17-18 says that during the Tribulation, the antichrist will have centralized control of the world’s (read: the West, and therefore, indirectly the rest of the world) economy, religious system and government.

The operative word here is ‘centralized.’ We’ve already seen a live demonstration of centralization and how it works, as applied to the media industry.

A generation ago, there were more than 1300 independently owned and operated newspapers. That’s 1300 independent editorial boards.

Today’s media is concentrated in the hands of just five super media conglomerates, Viacom, NewsCorp, AOL/Time/Warner, Disney and GE.

They control everything you see and hear on TV, at the movies, read in the newspaper or hear on the radio. Viacom is French-owned.

Viacom owns CBS, UPN, MTV, Nickelodeon, Showtime,Sundance Channel, VH-1, King World Productions, Infinity Broadcasting and Comedy Central.

It also owns Blockbuster Video, the world’s largest video rental chain, and Blockbuster Music; book publishing, including Simon & Schuster, Scribners and Macmillan; film, video and television production, including Paramount Pictures and a 50 percent interest in United Cinemas International.

What’s left? Doesn’t seem like there’s anything they don’t own. But whatever it might be, you can bet it belongs to one of the other four. That’s how millions of Americans can participate in thousands of national ‘tea parties’ while the majority of the country stays in the dark about it.

It appears that the elites of the banking industry and their allies like the CFR and Trilats (and so on) have decided to force the issue. If America won’t voluntarily subject itself to supranational control, then its time to make one of those hard decisions.

In this case, tip over the economy. Once its tipped, do everything possible to ensure it stays tipped. Triple the deficit. Borrow until there are no more lenders, then start inventing money — and then burn it on useless programs that make things worse, like ‘Cash for Clunkers’ or a trillion dollar ‘stimulus’ that remains under lock and key — ‘spent’ as it were, but not distributed.

Like locking next month’s rent money into a two year CD and then paying your rent with a rubber check and a ‘payday’ loan from the local loan shark.

I know it sounds nuts. (I have to admit that we DID have both Kool-Aid AND tin foil hats at the OL Gathering.)

But Gerald Celente sounds even crazier. Unfortunately, he’s not. Celente is the head of the Trends Research Institute, which analyzes current trends to forecast future ones.

Celente’s record for accuracy is nothing short of astonishing.

So, according to secular futurist Celente, America is already well into a second American revolution. Celente says the first shot heard by almost nobody was the one fired on April 15th with the first of the tax tea parties ignored by the media.

The second shot fired, according to Celente, was when the Tax Day protestors, furious at being ignored, staged a second national Tea Party on the 4th of July. As in April, they were ignored by the media and dismissed by the administration as ‘conservative fringe elements.’

Celente calls the town hall protests over Obamacare, not a third shot, but rather, a volley of fire aimed at the Congress. Again, he notes, White House and the media have labeled protestors “conservative fringe elements,” or as players in staged events organized by Republican operatives that have been egged on by Fox news and right-wing radio show hosts.

Celente says they ignore this at the nation’s peril.

Celente also forecasts further deterioration, saying the global economy is terminally ill, until the ‘fourth shot’ is fired. Interestingly, Celente’s Trends Research Institute projection is that the fourth shot will literally be ‘a shot.’

He says the government will attempt to impose mandatory flu shots and that will be the straw that breaks the camel’s back. Celente’s strategic forecast moving forward from there is so ominous that I’m simply going to paste it in verbatim and let it speak for itself.

Trend Forecast: Before the momentum of the “Second American Revolution” becomes unstoppable, it could be derailed through some false flag event designed to deceive the public, or a genuine event or crisis capable of rallying the entire nation behind the President.

In a worst-case scenario, according to Trends Research Institute Director, Gerald Celente, “Given the pattern of governments to parlay egregious failures into mega-failures, the classic trend they follow, when all else fails, is to take their nation to war.”

A false flag attempt, a genuine crisis, or a declaration of war, may slow the momentum of the “Second American Revolution,” but nothing will stop it.

That’s the way it looks to a secular futurist based on his analysis of current events, historical trends and other social/secular signs of the times.

Where is America in Bible prophecy? How is it that the Bible can accurately forecast the emergence of the four spheres of world power in the last days, precisely as they have emerged IN THIS GENERATION, and failed to mention the greatest global super-power the world has ever known?

There are but two possible answers. The first, and most hopeful, is that the Rapture of the Church will so decimate and demoralize the nation that it will cease to play any meaningful role on the international stage during the Tribulation Period.

The second answer is too much like the Trends Research Institute’s forecast.

What A Bunch of HUAC

What A Bunch of HUAC
Vol: 95 Issue: 12 Wednesday, August 12, 2009

Everybody knows who Joe McCarthy is, thanks to years and years of liberal Marxist propaganda aimed at rehabilitating the reputations of Hollywood leftists ‘outed’ by the House UnAmerican Activities Committee (HUAC) during the 1950’s.

Joe McCarthy is one of those people who became words, like Marxism or Leninism. “McCarthyism” came to mean the politically motivated practice of making accusations of disloyalty, subversion, or treason without proper regard for the evidence.

In Joe McCarthy’s case, the political motivation was the preservation of the American Republic by rooting out Communists and Marxists, particularly among the political and entertainment elite.

“I am sick and tired of people who say that if you debate and you disagree with this administration somehow you re not patriotic. We should stand up and say we are Americans and we have a right to debate and disagree with any administration.” – Hillary Clinton defending an attack on Bush administration policies in 2003.

“Drowning out opposing views is simply un-American.” Nancy Pelosi and Steny Hoyer referring to Obamacare opponents, USAToday, August 10, 2009.

Last week, the White House asked citizens to inform on opponents of Obamacare.

There is a lot of disinformation about health insurance reform out there, spanning from control of personal finances to end of life care, wrote Macon Phillips, director of New Media for the White House in a blog posting.

These rumors often travel just below the surface via chain e-mails or through casual conversation. Since we can t keep track of all of them here at the White House, we re asking for your help. If you get an e-mail or see something on the Web about health insurance reform that seems fishy, send it to flag@whitehouse.gov.

Phillips also wrote, Scary chain e-mails and videos are starting to percolate on the Internet, breathlessly claiming, for example, to uncover the truth about the presidents health insurance reform position.

White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs immediately denied that the White House was collecting names.

Nobody is collecting names,” Gibbs said before inadvertently quoting the memo he was denying existed, noting, “A lot of misinformation is out there.”

Among the information now ‘out there’ is a new White House disinformation center called “Reality Check.” According to the CBO, the bills under consideration would raise the deficit between $300 billion and $1.2 trillion over the next ten years.

According to Reality Check, the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office is lying. Citing NO counter-study and providing no figures, it said the reform “will not add one penny to the deficit.”

It isn’t just that they are lying — which they are. It is that they are absolutely shameless about it. I could go on and on with examples of outright lies actually being made into commercials for the DNC, but I’ll give one example I saw on one of the news programs yesterday.

The DNC made a commercial about a highly-placed Republican organizer who was one of the ‘mobsters’ organizing the ‘shoutdowns’. Turns out the guy has a Facebook account with 23 friends. And he isn’t a Republican operative, he’s an insurance salesmen who isn’t even a Republican.

The DNC is imploding as quickly as the Obama administration is. The left doesn’t see it yet — which should be totally baffling — but it’s not. But the chinks in the DNC’s armor are beginning to show.

The Washington Post wrote a piece critical of the administration’s plans to use tracking cookies to allow the White House to collect information on every person who uses a government website, overturning a ban on the practice in place since 2000.

USAToday reported on a CBO report that says it will cost $8 billion to pay for the expanded bureaucracy needed to sustain the government’s climate change initiatives.

Even the White House can’t conceal the outrage being expressed at all the town hall meetings taking place around the country, despite Obama’s best efforts. Obama went to a Portsmouth, NH town hall meeting that had his cheerleading squads at MSNBC fearing for his safety from the angry crowds.

Obama himself made a point of telling the crowd that if he didn’t get any dissenting questions, he would ask someone to come forward with one.

But sadly, he couldn’t find anybody at this particular town hall meeting that wasn’t 100% onboard with the program. Hmmm.

That must mean that at all the OTHER town hall meetings, the outrage is manufactured. Probably by the Republicans.

Call it the Tyranny of the Powerless, since the Democrats have supermajorities in both Houses of Congress as well as controlling most governors and state legislatures.

At this particular town hall where nary a dissenting word was heard, Obama was free to construct his own straw man arguments to make his case. He urged his friendly audience not to listen to “those who seek to scare and mislead” you about his plans.

“Where we do disagree, let’s disagree over things that are real, not these wild misrepresentations that bear no resemblance to anything that’s actually been proposed,” he said.

“Because the way politics works sometimes is that people who want to keep things the way they are will try to scare the heck out of folks, and they’ll create boogeymen out there.”

He chose, as an example of a wild misrepresentation, the charge that he is seeking a single payer-system similar to that of Canada or Great Britain.

Pay no attention to the video of Obama from 2003 in which he says, “I happen to be a proponent of single-payer, universal health care plans.

That wasn’t really Obama. That was a boogeyman.

Another example of the boogeymen created ‘out there’ is the charge that you won’t be able to keep your current health insurance.

According to the angry mobs of Republican operatives, employers are likely to drop their private insurance coverage in favor of what will be cheaper public health insurance run by the same government that runs the US Postal Service.

Absolutely untrue, Obama told the cheering crowd that the White House swears was not hand-picked. It’s another one of those boogeymen.

In 2007, the boogeyman dressed up like Obama again and, while campaigning for President, said, I don t think we re going to be able to eliminate employer coverage immediately. There s going to be potentially some transition process. I can envision a decade out, or 15 years out, or 20 years out.

Obama promised that the government will not be involved in making health care decisions. But two weeks ago, he told a press conference that, “the government is already making some of these decisions.”

Obama said last week, “You don’t see me out there blaming the Republicans,” in a speech that OPENED with these words:

“I’ve heard that one Republican strategist told his party that even though they may want to compromise, it’s better politics to ‘go for the kill.’ Another Republican senator said that defeating health reform is about ‘breaking’ me.”

“Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron.” (1st Timothy 4:1-2)

And then, they take over the country.

The Millennium

The Millennium
Vol: 95 Issue: 11 Tuesday, August 11, 2009

According to Scripture, there are at least two remaining Dispensations of God between now and the destruction of universe and its replacement with the new heavens and new earth described by the Apostle Peter.

But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up. (2nd Peter 3:10)

Peter refers to this as the Day of the Lord and later, the Day of God ((2nd Peter 3:12). This is different than the Day of Christ. The Day of Christ is the day He returns for His Church at the Rapture.

Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto Him, That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand. (2nd Thessalonians 2:1-2)

While the Day of Christ refers to the ingathering of the Church at the Rapture and the Bema Judgment for rewards, the Day of the Lord refers to judgment for sin; judgment against the Gentile nations; judgment against unbelieving Israel and the final judgment at the Great White Throne.

It is important to remember that Christ is not God s last Name; it is His title. Christ is the Greek equivalent [Christos] to the Hebrew Messiah [Mosiach]. The Day of the Lord is therefore significant of judgment, whereas the day of Christ signifies redemption.

So, here is the chronology remaining for the human race: the current Dispensation [the Church Age] comes to an end at the Rapture as part of the Day of Christ.

The Raptured Church attends the Bema Seat Judgment (2nd Corinthians 3:11-15), the marriage supper of the Lamb (Revelation 19:9) and accompanies Him to the earth at His triumphant Second Coming. (Jude 1:14-15)

The Tribulation Period is its own Dispensation, in addition to being a resumption of the Age of the Law it represents the 70th Week of Daniel.

The revealing Angel gave Daniel an panoramic view of Israel s history, beginning with the order to rebuild Jerusalem and the Temple and ending with the coming of the Messiah.

Daniel s outline is interrupted at the end of the 69th week (of years) with the cutting off of the Messiah and resumes with the revelation of the antichrist when he confirms a seven-year peace treaty between Israel and her enemies.

How can we know that the 70th Week is set apart from the Church Age? The angel listed six specific things to be accomplished during the 70th Week, from Israel s perspective:

Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy.

Before going down the list, notice that the 70th week is for Daniel’s people, [the Jews] and Daniel’s holy city [Jerusalem] and NOT for the Church.

1) Finish the transgression yet future for Israel/accomplished at the Cross for the Church.

2) Make an end of sins sin loses its power over believers at regeneration regeneration is a function of the Cross in the lives of believers

3) Make reconciliation for iniquity simply stated, it means to make restitution [payment] for sin. Accomplished at the Cross for believers yet future for unbelieving Jews

4) Bring in everlasting righteousness — Christ returns to set up the Millennial Kingdom with Himself on the Throne in Jerusalem.

5) Seal up the vision and prophecy the fulfillment of all Messianic prophecy yet future

6) Anoint the Most Holy the Mosiach is anointed King as per Israel s ancient custom and reigns over mankind for a thousand years – the Millennial Kingdom.

The Church has no role to play during the Tribulation, which Scripture identifies has having two specific purposes; the judgment of a Christ-rejecting world and the national redemption of Israel.

The Church was judged at the Cross and found judicially blameless by grace through faith. The Church neither rejected Christ nor has need of further redemption. The Church does not remain on the earth beyond the Church Age.

So, who inhabits the Millennial Kingdom? According to Scripture, there are but two groups who survive the Tribulation believing Gentiles and believing Jews.

In Revelation 19:11-16, we find the return of Jesus Christ to the earth. This is His Second Coming. The Rapture (1 Thessalonians 4:13-18; 1 Corinthians 15:51-53) is an appearing of Christ in the air. That is not the same as His Second Coming.

This is included, I believe, to draw a distinction between the Rapture and the Second Coming of Christ. There is no mention in Revelation 19-20 of any kind of rapture event where believers receive glorified bodies.

The prophet Joel, in his description of the Tribulation Judgment, was clear and specific concerning those to come under Tribulation judgment:

“Proclaim ye this among the Gentiles; Prepare war, wake up the mighty men, let all the men of war draw near; let them come up . . . Assemble yourselves, and come, all ye heathen, and gather yourselves together round about: thither cause thy mighty ones to come down, O LORD. Let the heathen be wakened, and come up to the valley of Jehoshaphat: for there will I sit to judge all the heathen round about. (Joel 3:9,11-12)

The believing Gentiles are non-Jews who come to faith during the Tribulation. Note that they are distinct from the new creature of the Church Age.

Jesus said that He will separate the sheep [righteous, or believing,] nations from the goat [unrighteous, or unbelieving] nations. The goats are cast into the Lake of Fire whereas the sheep [the righteous Gentiles] survive and live on into the Millennial Kingdom.

By implication, no unbelieving Gentile will survive the Second Coming. The righteous Gentiles, or sheep, will live on into the millennial kingdom. They will give birth to children and will populate the earth. However, these are not the only ones who will be producing children during the millennial kingdom.

The impression is given that when Christ returns, all Israel will trust in Him (Zechariah 12:10). They, too, will not receive glorified bodies (as those did who were raptured prior to the tribulation). They also will produce children during the millennial kingdom.

To summarize, the Millennial Kingdom will be populated by believing Gentiles, Israel, and the resurrected/raptured believers whom, according to the Apostle Paul, will hold positions of authority and judgment as well.

Do ye not know that the saints shall judge the world? and if the world shall be judged by you, are ye unworthy to judge the smallest matters? Know ye not that we shall judge angels? how much more things that pertain to this life? (1st Corinthians 6:2-3)

According to the Prophet Isaiah, during the Millennial Kingdom, the earth is restored to its original ecological balance, and lifespans return to what they were prior to the Flood. . . . for the child shall die an hundred years old (Isaiah 65:20)

Everyone who enters into the Millennial Kingdom will be a believer, but the Scripture say that children will be born to believing Jews and Gentiles.

And, as incredible as it sounds (what with Jesus Himself on the throne and resurrected believers in glorified bodies running around directing traffic, or whatever) many of those born into the Millennial Kingdom will reject Christ, and they will, once again, gather themselves together to do battle against the Lord of Hosts. (Revelation 20:7-10)

And with that act, the final curtain comes down on the human race. For, behold, I create new heavens and a new earth: and the former shall not be remembered, nor come into mind, writes the Prophet Isaiah. [65:17)

Which leaves us contemplating the question asked by the Apostle Peter; Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness?

That s a question that each of us has to answer for ourselves in this life. For it will surely be asked of us as we seek admittance into the next.

The Christian ‘Religion’

The Christian ‘Religion’
Vol: 95 Issue: 10 Monday, August 10, 2009

“Religion” is system of worship whereby man attempts to make himself acceptable to his God. That is why the word is universally applied to any system of theology.

Catholicism is a religion. Hinduism is a religion. Islam is a religion. Even secular humanism is a religion, recognized as such by no less a secular authority than the Supreme Court. (Torcaso v Watkins, 1961). Secular humanism dictates man is his own supreme being, and is the systematic endeavor to reconcile man unto himself.

Of all the world’s great religions, the only one to which the appellation ‘religion’ is wholly inaccurate is that of Christianity.

Whereas religion, with all its rituals, sacrifices and dogma, constitutes man’s way of making himself acceptable to God, Christianity is a system where God makes man acceptable unto Himself.

That is not a distinction without a difference. Christianity is the mirror image of religion — its core doctrines might even be called ‘anti-religious’.

Religions demand adherence to certain rules and regulations as a condition of salvation. Those rules are compiled by religious men, set forth as the defining characteristics of that religion, and followed by its religious adherents, if they are to remain in good standing with their religion, and therefore, with God.

Religion, in all its forms, is a series of theological laws that must be kept by its followers in order to make themselves acceptable to whatever their understanding of God might be. Christianity is accepting God’s definition of Himself.

Jesus Christ was put to death for exposing the hypocrisy of religion. Not just the religious leaders, but religion itself. When the religious leaders tried to trap Him with the Law, He exposed the hypocrisy of religion for all to see.

“Then one of them, which was a lawyer, asked him a question, tempting Him, and saying, Master, which is the great commandment in the law?”

“Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.” (Matthew 22:35-40)

Loving God above all things and loving one’s neighbor as oneself is God’s ‘law’. Religion is a man-made substitute system that offers alternative choices. Historically, more wars have been fought over religion than any other cause, many in the name of the ‘Christian religion.’

But Bible Christianity teaches that our war is this life is spiritual; “not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” (Ephesians 6:12)

That is not to say true Christians are forbidden to go to war, as in the case of the current war on terror. Christians are not OF this world, but we are IN it.

As national citizens, Christians are admonished “to be subject to principalities and powers, to obey magistrates, to be ready to every good work,” (Titus 3:1) But that is not the same as banding together to conquer for Christ’s glory. That is a religious concept, not a Christian one.

The true source of religion — and its underlying concepts — was revealed in Scripture BEFORE the fall of Adam.

“For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.” (Genesis 3:5)

Let’s break the oldest lie in the Book down into its component elements;

1) “Your eyes shall be opened.”

The serpent begins by hinting that God is deliberately withholding beneficial information from them. The argument that some Scriptures seem to require salvation by faith plus works, while others seem to support eternal security stems from that seminal deception — that God’s Word is ambiguous when examined closely.

2) “Ye shall be as gods.”

It goes against the grain of human pride to believe that the only role we play in our own salvation is to accept a free gift of unearned pardon. Most human religions — including most Christian denominations — insist that mankind play some role in his redemption.

In this view, the sacrifice of the Cross is not enough — it is just a kick-start that gets us going. We must then perform at a certain level or that sacrifice is negated by our own failed efforts.

3) “Knowing good from evil.”

This goes back to the belief that we humans can know WHICH sins are sufficient to disqualify us from heaven and which ones God will let slide because they weren’t as evil — which is the ONLY rationale for rejecting the doctrine of eternal security.

There are seemingly as many religions within Christianity as there are religions outside Christianity. Religions within Christianity are Christian in the sense that they claim Christ as their Lord, but write their own rules to substitute for His standard of salvation by works.

The Lord’s standard for salvation by works is somewhat harsh:

“As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God. They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.” (Romans 3:10-12)

So religion attempts to rewrite the rules, claiming unto itself special righteousness and understanding provides it with insights that make it unique in that it ‘seeketh after God’, claiming unprofitable rituals and sacrifices are now profitable, and organizing itself to ‘do good.’

Religious Christianity is a system that substitutes its own, more attainable standards of conduct for God’s standard of perfection, adding temporal punishments and penalties as atonements for the inevitable failure of its adherents.

When discussing the doctrine of eternal security, I note that most argue the phrase, not the doctrine. The doctrine of eternal security is the essential difference between religion and Bible Christianity.

The terms used to describe salvation scream ‘eternally secure’; “Eternal life” (John 3:16, 1st John 5:11), “full assurance” (Hebrews 6:11, Colossians 2:2), “hope. . . sure and steadfast” (Hebrews 6:19)

Salvation is described in Scripture, not as something yet to come, but present-tense. Each true believer is described as “forgiven” (Romans 4:7, 1st John 2:12), “justified” (Romans 5:1,9, Titus 3:7), “reconciled” (Romans 5:19) “risen with Christ” (Romans 6:3-6, Colossians 3:1-2) a “new creation” (2nd Corinthians 5:17)

Believers are “complete in Him” (Colossians 2:10), already “citizens of heaven” (Philippians 3:20), “sanctified once and for all” (Hebrews 10:10) and “perfected forever.” (Hebrews 10:14)

The Bible says of believers that we ARE: “God’s family” (Galatians 3:26, 1st John 3:2), effectively ALREADY “seated in the heavenlies with Christ” (Ephesians 2:5-6) and “translated into the kingdom of His dear Son” Colossians 1:13)

Salvation cannot be lost unless one discounts the following core doctrines: Salvation is eternal (John 3:16, 36), it is a present possession (Romans 5, 1st Peter 2:24-25) it is imputed, not earned, (2nd Corinthians 5:17, Galatians 2:20, Hebrews 9:10, Romans 3:24, Ephesians 2:8-9,Titus 3:3-7, Romans 3:19-28, 4:4-5, 11:16)

Eternal security is NOT a license to sin. It is important to understand that eternal security does not apply to a person who merely professes Christ. Salvation demands repentance.

Repentance means a change of mind resulting in a change of life. The person who has never changed his mind about God, sin, Christ, the Bible, etc., has never repented and has never been saved.

Rather than granting license to sin, the Bible teaches that the grace of God actually motivates believers to serve God with a thankful heart. (Romans 2:4, Ephesians 3:14,-19, Titus 2:11-14)

A sinning believer is out of fellowship with the Lord, but the relationship remains the same. He is helped and loved by the Lord Jesus Christ (1st John 2:1-2). He is chastened by the Father (Hebrews 12:5-11) BECAUSE the relationship remains intact.

Although forgiven, a sinning Christian cannot regain lost opportunities or the hurt caused by his sin. And the sinning Christian will suffer loss at the Bema Seat. (1st Corinthians 3:11-15, 2nd Corinthians 5:10, 1st John 2:28)

Logically, to deny the doctrine of eternal security is to embrace religion as an acceptable way to please God.

But God says those who stand before Him trusting in their works will be judged ACCORDING to their works. Those who stand before Him trusting in the Promise that Christ’s Work at the Cross was all sufficient will be judged according to that standard.

“If any man’s work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire.” (1st Corinthians 3:15)

Religion doesn’t save us. It can’t keep us. There is only One Who can “keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of His glory with exceeding joy.” (Jude 1:24)

Trust Him.

Special Report: ‘Fair’ Is a Call in Baseball

Special Report: ‘Fair’ Is a Call in Baseball
Vol: 95 Issue: 8 Saturday, August 8, 2009

I got an email from a reader recently that complained that God is not being fair by condemning non-Christians to hell. If God was fair, claimed my correspondent, He’d give everybody a second chance.

We’ll deal with the second chance idea first, and then go back to the issue of God being ‘fair’.

Salvation is a win-win scenario, both for those of us who are saved, and for God. God extends His grace to us, which the Bible says gives Him pleasure because He loves us. When we accept the gift of salvation, we do so by faith. God counts that faith towards our account as righteousness and is therefore able to enter into fellowship with us.

It is a two-way street; God chooses us, and we choose Him. Nobody is compelled to come to Christ; Jesus died for the sins of all mankind, but God only has fellowship with those who accept the Gift that is offered.

It is about faith. Faith that God is. Faith that Jesus has paid the penalty for our sin. Faith that He will keep His promise to save us. Paul notes that ‘we walk by faith and not by sight’ (2nd Corinthinans 5:7) and God loves us for that.

A ‘second chance’ after we are dead is not faith. It is not a choice between trusting in Jesus and trusting in ourselves.

When a criminal stands before a judge, he is almost always sorry. But when he is standing before the judge, his sorrow is for himself. He is sorry he got caught, sorry he got convicted and is sorry he is going to have to pay the penalty.

That is not the same thing as being sorry he committed the crime. He committed the crime because he trusted he would be able to get away with it.

He knew that there was a penalty attached to the crime when he committed it, but criminals operate on the theory that they won’t get caught, or that they will somehow beat the rap.

It isn’t until all hope is lost that they (sometimes) admit their guilt and sorrow, and that admission usually doesn’t come until just before sentencing in the hopes maybe their sentence will be reduced.

The second chance theory is like that. It assumes that once a person actually sees that there is a heaven and there is a hell, they will choose heaven and God will honor that choice because He is ‘fair’.

In that scenario, one is choosing between two certainties. But salvation comes by faith. Hebrews 11:1 defines faith: “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”

A person counting on a second chance is like a convicted criminal hoping that his apology for his crimes will cause the judge to set aside the jury’s verdict and the proscribed punishment.

And it is because the judge is fair that the criminal knows his apology won’t change his conviction.

But when it comes to God, people assume God is unfair for exactly the same reason.

This will come as a shock to some of you. God isn’t ‘fair’. If God was fair, nobody could be saved. There are good people who are not Christians, but who try to do the best they can.

And there are devoted followers of other gods who go to outrageous lengths to please their deity. Consider the followers of Islam, for a second. Their god is distant, unknowable and demanding.

The observant Muslim prays five times a day, doesn’t smoke or drink, fasts for a whole month every year, keeps strict dietary laws, and knows the only certain way to paradise is death by jihad.

If that kind of dedication isn’t enough to earn one a place in paradise, then a Christian who seldom goes to church, smokes and drinks, doesn’t pray very often and seldom witnesses for his faith shouldn’t have a chance.

But the Scriptures say that the observant Muslim is condemned, but the wishy-washy Christian is redeemed. Does that sound fair to you?

What would be fair would be if God condemned all sinners to hell. And since the Bible says that ‘all have sinned and come short of the glory of God’ then all should be condemned. “Mercy” is not the same as “fairness.”

I know who I am, just as God knows who I am. If I were God, I would be forced to condemn me as a sinner. That would be only fair. Instead, God extended His mercy to me and made a way for me to get around the fairness doctrine because He knew I could never do so on my own.

God knows that there is never enough I could do to blot away my own sins. If I prayed five times in a certain direction every day, fasted for a month out of every year, and performed a litany of other duties as part of my worship to Him, it wouldn’t change the fact that I was guilty of sin.

A man could be a pillar of the community, a well-known philantropist and dedicated to doing good things, but all that is meaningless if he is charged with a serious crime. There is an old saying about not doing the crime if you can’t do the time. THAT is ‘fair’.

Christians are saved, “Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost.” (Titus 3:5)

‘Fair’ is a call in baseball.

Note: The OL Gathering has begun!

The weather reports are dismal; rain this afternoon, and tomorrow’s forecast is, quote: “The hottest, wettest and most humid day this summer.”

Please pray for weather mercies for our fellowship over the next three days.

Today’s OL is a republication of Volume 61, Issue 16 first published October 16th, 2006. I hope nobody minds the retread — I thought it was a pretty good one.
