My Pastor and Ashley Madison

The Book of Daniel is certainly one of the great books of prophecy, if not the best. Daniel did a lot of dreaming and a lot of dream interpretation. He was blessed with a gift of predicting the future last days through his remarkable visions. The book was written around 530 BC by Daniel after Nebuchadnezzar, King of Babylon, conquered the Jewish people and took most of the remaining Jews captive, back to Babylon (Iraq). Ten of the twelve tribes of Israel had been lost, possibly through assimilation, 200 years earlier when captured by Assyria.
As words and visions came to him about a future end of things, he wrote them in a scroll until he heard this:
“But you, Daniel, roll up and seal the words of the scroll until the time of the end. Many will go here and there to increase knowledge.” ~ Daniel 12:4 NIV
Makes one wonder what he was writing and why we cannot know until this future time, not too far in the future would be my guess.
The internet surely fulfills the Daniel 12:4 prophecy above. It appears it has become quick and easy for anyone with a computer or a myriad of other devices to go “here and there to increase knowledge,” anytime one wishes. In a few seconds you can be in the Smithsonian Library or checking out the Louvre for information. And this all happened in a few decades.
People had always gone here and there, so this must be a different version. Only 200 years ago, one could go here and there to increase knowledge at a whopping 27 MPH, by horse. Now we travel here and there via the internet super highway at nearly the speed of light. Yes, I would say this is different.
The internet super highway has become less a thing of beauty, a tool for good rather than bad, and more a trash dump. Virtually unregulated, though monitored by someone, one can find almost anything in the trash dump.
There are gay sites for gay sex, hetero sites for hetero sex, pedophile sites for… well, I won’t even go there and there is also the Ashley Madison site where the motto is: Life is short. Have an affair.
Ashley is doing well with thousands of eager members as the site caters to those who wish to commit adultery. Now this makes going here to there a little quicker I suppose.
Adultery was against the law in all states in 1950. Adultery is now illegal in only 22 states. Pedophilia I would hope is still illegal in all states, but who knows?
Unfortunately for the Ashley Madison website, it was hacked and all the members’ names and addresses were stolen. This has proven to be unfortunate also for many married men, including pastors. There is even a service to help pastors deal with this exposure to adultery as well as pastors with porno addictions.
In New Orleans a 56 year old pastor who taught at the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary named John Gibson committed suicide.
Since adultery is still illegal in so many states, why would the Ashley Madison site be allowed to operate in those states? Why would pedophile sites be allowed anywhere? We have websites inviting people to break both God’s law and man’s law and then showing them how to do it.
Unfortunately we seem to have become a society more upset and obsessed with removing Ten Commandment monuments than we are about websites that teach how to be criminal.
Not to lambast pastors, only to show that they are merely mortal men, destined to sin like all men; and they are not holier than thou. They are human. Like King David.
King David, arguably the greatest of all Israeli kings, is also described in the Bible as “a man after God’s own heart.” Not only did King David commit an Ashley Madison with Bathsheba but also had Bathsheba’s husband killed. Premeditated.
King David, like Pastor John Gibson of New Orleans, was just a man, far from flawless.
Much of the media couldn’t wait to report about the many pastors and Christians listed on the Ashley Madison site, but I imagine the number of media magnates and journalists outnumber the Christians by a long shot.
Sex has always been a powerful addiction and suppose that strong drive is what keeps the world populated, at least in traditional marriages. It has also brought many to ruin and even more to shame.
God did not kill King David, though under the Law of Moses this was the punishment to be meted out for adultery; but King David did have a really bad day, several.
The coming world according to Daniel, a world that could not happen prior to the restoration of Israel, will probably be seen by most of us alive at this moment. Those who do not believe so have not done their homework. They don’t teach this stuff on Entertainment Tonight or TV dramas.
“Now I have come to explain to you what will happen to your people in the future, for the vision concerns a time yet to come.” ~ Daniel 10:14 NIV
The internet, like the TV, had such a great opportunity to provide goodness instead of badness; but badness is what sells. Good News newspapers have been tried but failed.
God talked about a time when mankind would fall from His ways to our own ways.
"For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways," declares the LORD. ~ Isaiah 55:8 NIV
I would say that is about right. The “ways” we are changing America are definitely not God’s ways. It is also not the Founders ways.
